About Gilles Martin-Raget
Born in Arles (South of France), Gilles Martin-Raget is now based in Marseilles where he is working as an independant marine photographer and journalist specialised in yachting.
He discovered sailing at the age of 19 when he was a student in economics and improved gradually his sailing skills on big racing yachts for 10 years, mainly in the Mediterranean.
Being a crewmember of the french entry during 1983 America's Cup challengers trials, he made his firts steps as professional photographer the same year, covering the famous victory of Australia II in Newport and getting significant publications for his debut.
After another America’s Cup experience as a crewmember in 1985 in Fremantle (Australia), he turned definitively in the job of photojournalist, having covered every single edition of the premium sailing event since.
Gilles Martin-Raget is now one of the most recognized marine photographer worldwide, shooting not only for major international yachting magazines but also for sponsors, race organisers and boat builders. He has been official team photograoher for ORACLE Racing during 2007 and 2010 America's Cup edition, and principal photographer for the 34th America's Cup sailed in San Francisco in 2013.
Gilles Martin-Raget has also published many books, some of them about his native region of Provence, including some award winning, and run a photo gallery in Marseille (FRA).
